Compassion Focused Therapy for Eating Disorders
This workshop explores the application of Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) in the treatment of eating disorders. The content will focus on transdiagnostic processes such as shame, self-criticism, threat sensitivity, and emotion regulation difficulties, which commonly underpin eating disorders and their co-occurring presentations. Participants will learn how to construct and use a compassion-focused formulation to understand maintaining mechanisms and guide targeted intervention.
Drawing on simulated case examples and reflections from practice, the workshop will bring CFT principles to life across both individual and group formats. The emphasis throughout is on practical implementation. Attendees will leave with concrete strategies, clinical language, formulation tools, and guidance toward key CFT resources to support continued development beyond the workshop.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Describe the theoretical foundations of Compassion-Focused Therapy and explain its relevance to eating and body image concerns.
Formulate eating disorder presentations using a CFT lens, identifying the roles of transdiagnostic features such as shame, self-criticism, and emotion regulation difficulties.
Apply compassion-focused strategies across a range of treatment settings, including individual, group, face-to-face, and online formats.
