Service Description
Dr Andrew Wallis presents 6 hours of LIVE in-person online training in Family Based Therapy - Advanced (June 2026) | Zoom TIME: 9:00am - 4:30pm (AEST) TRAINING SUMMARY: Family Based Therapy (FBT) is an evidence-based outpatient treatment for eating disorders that places parents at the centre of supporting their child’s recovery. While the model is conceptually clear, delivering FBT with fidelity can be clinically demanding, particularly when working with complex family dynamics and later phases of treatment. This advanced online workshop is designed for clinicians who already have experience using FBT and are seeking to deepen their practice. The training focuses on refining therapeutic process, strengthening advanced family therapy skills, and responding to common challenges that arise in sessions, while maintaining fidelity to the core structure and goals of FBT. Systemic family therapy concepts will be integrated to support thoughtful, developmentally sensitive clinical decision-making. LEARNING OUTCOMES: - Strengthen relationship-based practice while maintaining core FBT principles - Respond to common in-session challenges, including parental discord, strong emotions, mis-attunement and limited engagement - Develop advanced interviewing skills to support effective in-session communication with parents and young people - Consider clinical issues and therapeutic processes in the later phases of FBT It is expected that clinicians attending will have: - Professional training and skills in child and adolescent mental health care - Knowledge and experience with adolescent eating disorders - Previous experience working with families is an advantage YOUR TRAINER: Dr Wallis is a clinical social worker and systemic family therapist with 30 years of experience.
